Annual Camporee retreat September 23-25, 2005

Each year the Maine’s Roman Catholic Diocesan Scouting Committee holds a weekend Camporee Retreat. This year’s treat will be held at St. Gregory’s Parish Campground in Gray. Scouts have a choice of sleeping in A-frame cabins or tents.

The retreat theme for this year is “Finding Truth in Faith.” Scouts will explore the Luminous Mysteries, which will give them a deeper understanding of their faith. The Camporee/retreat starts on Friday, September 23, with registration beginning at 5:00pm. The evening consists of a Christian rock concert, a talk with a Maine’s children author, icebreakers, games, snack (cracker barrel), and the evening is concluded with the rosary prayer and a short movie.

Saturday is a day full of fun activities and fun. It includes sessions on the Luminous Mysteries, free time for games, making new friends or sitting by the lake. Mass is celebrated outside (weather permitting), followed by a BBQ. The evening is topped off by a campfire and skits, and a friendly game of Manhunt (hide and go seek in the dark). The evening concludes with the Last Supper experience. Scouts leave for home on Sunday morning.

The Roman Catholic Diocesan Scouting committee welcomes Catholic Cub, Boy, Venture, or Explorer Scouts in addition to girl scouts in grades 5 to 12. We promise a weekend with great food, fun activities, challenging faith-experience and lots of things to do. The fee for the weekend is $35 and includes all meals (four), Camporee sweatshirt, patch, and various prizes.

Scouts of all ages have said that this has been a fun-faithful experience and before the weekend is done, they are already talking about the next year.
