A Letter From The District Chairman02/24/2003
Hi, It's been about two months now that I have been K-Valley District Chairman. It has been a busy two months. After 39 years in Scouting I find myself still learning about Scouting. Moving up to District Chairman brings with it a lot of responsibility. It is my job to see that all the Scouts in Kennebec Valley District have the best that Scouting can offer. This is something that I cannot do alone. Lynn, as our new District Commissioner, and Matt, our new District Executive, bring with them a lot of experience. We will work together to maintain all that has been accomplished in K-Valley in the past. All that has been accomplished has been done with all the great work of our adults and Scouts of the District. Nothing could have happened without you. Maintaining status quo is not enough. It is one of my goals to find out from you what the District has done for you and your Scouts. Is the District doing enough? Is the District serving your needs? Is the District keeping you informed? Do you have ideas to improve our District? In the coming months we will be conducting a survey of the District. We need to find out from you if we are doing all we can. We believe we can do more to offer the highest quality Scouting experience. That's where we need your help. Your honest response and suggestions on the survey will benefit the whole District. The District must fulfill all of the needs of our units. Scouting is not broken down into three parts Packs, Troops, and Crews. Scouting is a process where the newest Tiger cub is just as important as the newest Eagle Scout or the oldest Crew member. "Seamless Scouting" is a new term in Scouting. Scouting is a program that provides a new Tiger the opportunity to move through the program knowing that what has been promised will be there for him to enjoy and grow into manhood. It is our job to work together as a Scouting family. It is just as important for a Pack to see that a Troop is successful for their Webelos to join, as it is for a Troop to see to the success of a Pack for new Scouts. The same goes for Troops and Crews. We need to think in terms of the whole Scouting program and not just where we are currently involved. No program should be an after thought, it must be always in our thoughts. The District has new leadership. Scouting always has new leaders. By working together and setting no limits we can achieve anything. When you believe something is impossible, your mind goes to work for you to prove why. But, when you believe, really believe, something can be done, your mind goes to work for you and helps you to find the ways to do it. So let's really believe that we can accomplish great things for Scouting. With your help and dedication I know that we can accomplish great things. |
