District Award of Merit Plaque

Distict Award of Merit information is at the bottom of thispage

This list has been compiled by Patricia M. Downs and Lynn Corson. May Pat's Contributions to Scouting always be cherished, especially her "baby", the District Award of Merit.

This list currently contains only a partial list of recipients from the now-merged Snowshoe District (marked (s) in the list). Those who currently serve in our district who have received this award outside of our district are marked with (o) along with where they received the award. K-Valley would be proud to add all these members to the honor roll. If you have information on those Scouters receiving the District Award of Merit before the merger, please contact Lynn Corson or Charlie Matthews. Thank you.

DISTRICT AWARD OF MERIT GENERAL INFORMATION
(From the nomination form. You can download the nomination form from the district library.)

The District Award of Merit is a Council Award presented by districts or Venturing divisions in the same manner that the Silver Beaver Award is a national award presented by councils.

The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district or Venturing division level.

The award is made available annual on the basis of 1 for each 25 units or fraction thereof. The district or Venturing division need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.

It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award.

A professional Scouter may not receive this award based on professional service. However, a professional Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service.

DISTRICT AWARD OF MERIT REQUIREMENTS
for Kennebec Valley District

(You can download the nomination form from the district library)

  1. Select a Scouter that has demonstrated outstanding qualities in his/her Scouting career. There is no emphasis put upon the length of time this person has served as a Scouter. Performance is what counts.
  2. Select a Scouter that is involved in community affairs. Community service may be service oriented, coaching a sports team, school volunteer, church involvement, etc. It is not necessary to have community involvement, but suggested. Exemplary service to BSA or job restrictions may prevent any other involvement, and consideration is given under the circumstances.
  3. Complete the nomination form for Award of Merit. Include as much information as possible, remembering that selection is based upon information provided.
  4. Include at least three (3) letters of recommendation, starting with letters from Scouters and community involvement. Again, selection is based upon information provided.
  5. A letter from the Scouter filling out the Award of Merit form is recommended. The form itself only allows for tenure and award facts.
  6. Family members/spouses should not nominate one another, and may result in a nomination being rejected.
  7. Nominations will be held for a period of three(3) years for consideration.
  8. Selection of the current recipients is completed by the previous year recipients, with guidance from the Award of Merit committee.
  9. Completed forms and all letters are due no later than March 31, 2006 for consideration in 2006. Nominations may be handed in person to Charlene Brousseau, or Lynn Corson. Preferred is Charlene Brousseau, as all nominations will eventually go to her. Nominations may also be mailed as follows:
Charlene Brousseau
Old Winthrop RD
Manchester ME 04351
622-9118
Lynn Corson
505 Valley Rd.
Somerville, ME 04348
549-5069 or 446-3115(cell)
