"Mil-Foiler" program
The Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed, located in the Augusta area, are working to protect the 28 lakes and streams within our watershed. One of our projects, "Mil-Foiler", recruits volunteers to perform Courtesy Boat Inspections at several of our public boat launches. CBI's have done a great job of keeping invasive aquatic plants (like Milfoil) out of our watershed, and we want to step up our efforts. That's where the Boy Scouts come in! I'd like to find some troops in Kennebec County that are interested in being trained as CBI's (they get a free t-shirt!) We'd like to train older scouts, but I think that it would also be fun to train a whole troop of younger scouts. Volunteering is done in 2-hour blocks and will give the boys a chance to meet & talk with boaters and fishermen. It will also increase their awareness of water quality issues. If you are interested in our "Mil-Foiler" program, or know a troop leader who is, please email me or give me a call at 621-4100.
