Friday, July 01, 2005 Hello, As of July 15th, our physical address for the new building will be changed. Portland messed up on the districting of our building - so we've got to change everything. 87 Johnson street exists, but not where we are - it is more towards the access road to the airport once you leave the turnpike exit. The NEW COUNCIL ADDRESS will be 131 Johnson ROAD (not street), Portland, ME 04102. Phone numbers, internet, etc. will all be the same. Sometimes you just can't make it up........
Monday, February 21, 2005 Here is an exciting opportunity for your older scouts, venturers and explorers. The 2005 Explorere Law Enforcement Academy to be held in June at the Police Academy in Vassalboro. For details, please see the brochure in Word or Adobe format.
Thursday, January 27, 2005 Hello All, A quick reminder that Saturday, January 29th, from 1 to 3 pm, at E-Pro in Augusta - Chip is holding his first of 2 Phone A thons. This is the list with all the folks who give each year. Chip and I are hoping to get folks at this one, so we can spend a little time tracking down units who have not let us in for FOS presentations in the past and try to convince them otherwise. If you can make it - even for an hour or so, please let Chip know at chipclary@earthlink.net. We both appreciate any and all time you can give to help. FOS is important. I know it is not always the #1 thing on a person's list of things to do, but when I see those camperships roll in uring summer camp - the time was worth it for me. One more kid going to camp - what a wonderful gift. We made Quality District this year - one of only 3 districts - KV, Abnaki, and Learning for Life - because you folks give so much of your time to these kids. I thank you. Let's keep it going for 2005. Thanks for all you do to help me and our scouting family.
January 10, 2005 Winter Camp 2005 is around the corner! Please see the following files for further details: The Recruitment Letter addressed to Unit Leaders in Word or Adobe format. The Information Flyer in Word or Adobe format. December 11, 2004 I have Four things the "folks" need to know about -
Thanks for all you do to help me and our scouting family. Yours in Scouting,
Here is #1 - BOY SCOUT NIGHT WITH THE PIRATES Don't forget about our first Scout Night with the Pirates on Saturday, December 4th vs. Hershey Bears at 7:05 PM. All game tickets are just $9.00 each and seating is in the Main Deck. All participants will receive a scout patch, courtesy of the Pine Tree Council and the Portland Pirates. Scout Night tickets can be purchased by calling the Portland Pirates at (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or by emailing Mark Bolduc at mbolduc@portlandpirates.com. We hope to see you at the game! And now, #2 - BOY SCOUT NIGHT AT THE MAINE ROCK GYM Monday, December 6, 2004 at 6:30 PM All Boy Scouts (age 11-17) in the Pine Tree Council have an opportunity to enjoy a free night of rock climbing at the Maine Rock Gym on Monday, December 6th. The gym is located at 127 Marginal Way in Portland. Requirement: You must bring a friend and sign them up for Boy Scouts that night to climb for free. This program is only good for a registered scout and a new scout. Along with the free rock climbing, the currently registered scout will receive a recruiter patch, a coupon for a free pizza at Amatos, and a free youth weeknight pass to Shawnee Peak Ski Resort. The new scout will also receive the Amatos coupon, and the Ski pass. The new youth registration cost will be $10. All youth that attend must complete the waiver form that can be found on the Maine Rock Gym website at merockgym.com and this form must be signed by the parent or you will not be allowed to participate. A maximum of 34 people can use the facility that evening. You must contact Jonathan Widmark at 797-5252 ext. 23 or email jwidmark@bsamail.org to register for this event. Thanks for all you do to help me and our scouting family. Yours in Scouting, Matthew
Save the date - March 19th, 2005 - Central Maine Technical Center - University of Scouting. This is a great supplimentary training for any and all adults in the scouting program. Good food, fellowship, and information will be served up in heaping helpings. Information on times druing the day and cost will follow after the holidays at Round Tables and Pine Spills.
If you can, please send a copy of your unit roster - leaders and youth - to me at either the Pine Tree Council (125 Auburn St., Portland, ME 04103) or over the e-Mail (Honors_Pride@hotmail.com). We need to make sure everybody is registered so that they are covered by insurance, and that who you think holds leadership positions in your unit matches who we think holds these postions. Also, mark the date - March 19th, 2005 - Central Maine Community College - University of Scouting. More information will be folloiwng in Pine Spills and at Round Tables. This is a great supplementary training for everybody, and a great day of fun.
We will be starting the process of setting up Friends of Scouting visits for this winter. Please talk with your unit committees and set a date. This is a great chance for fellow volunteers to come in, visit your unit, and help the scouting movement grow and prosper. If you are a unit who does not prefer to allow a volunteer to come in a speak at one of your unit meetings - please keep the following in mind. First - we raise money so EVERY kid in the Southern half of the State of Maine has the SAME chance to join and enjoy the benefits of scouting. Second - I realize that you leaders give much of your own personal monies to help your unit run - gas, food, badges, books, etc. However, though you may feel that your yearly contributions to your unit counts at your Friends of Scouting pledge, do not assume that all of your unit's families share this vision. Everybody deserves the chance to be asked - whether they give or not is another discussion. It costs you nothing but 10 minutes of one banquest or Court of Honor to have a volunteer come in and talk to your unit's families.
Last Updated: 31 October, 2004 (Sent to email list on October 31, 2004): Hello All, Two pieces of inportant information for you all to read - #1 - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - get ANY applications you still have in your possession to the Pine Tree Council office ASAP. The youth ARE NOT covered by the insurance policy if they have not been processed, and for Boy Scouts - they are gaining no tenure towards rank if they are not in the office. #2 - Popcorn Second Sale! For those units wishing to have a second sale of popcorn, orders are due by November 19th. Please contact Matthew Randall or Luanne Chesley for more information and order forms. Keep the following in mind - all units participating in the second sale WILL get the 32% commission, but WILL NOT have the profits from the 2nd sale added to their 1st sale for things such as the Over and Above incentive. It is a win-win situation for all who participate, none the less. Thanks for all you do to help me and our scouting family. Yours in Scouting, (From April, 2004)
